Six Big 12 Teams Could Qualify

Analyst Joel Klatt Predicts Texas as No. 6 Seed in College Football Playoff Bracket

Six Big 12 Teams Could Qualify

College Football News Analyst Joel Klatt made a bold prediction during Sunday's selection show that the Texas Longhorns will be the No. 6 seed in the College Football Playoff Bracket.

Should the prediction hold true, it would mark the first time the Longhorns have made the College Football Playoff since its inception in 2014.

Texas finished the regular season with a 10-2 record overall and a 7-2 mark in Big 12 play. The Longhorns finished the season ranked No. 18 in the College Football Playoff rankings.

Big 12's Big Year

Klatt's prediction underscores the depth of this year's Big 12 Conference. Six teams from the league have a chance of making the College Football Playoff.

In addition to Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Kansas State and Iowa State are all ranked in the top 25 of at least one of the College Football Playoff rankings.

This marks the first time in the history of the Big 12 that at least six teams have been ranked in the top 25.

Longhorns' Path to the Playoff

In order to make the College Football Playoff, Texas will likely need to win the Big 12 Championship Game.

The Longhorns lost their only matchup with Oklahoma this season, so a rematch between the two schools in the Big 12 title game would be a huge opportunity for Texas to make a statement.

If Texas does make the College Football Playoff, it would be a major accomplishment for the program.

Second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian has quickly turned the Longhorns into a contender, and a berth in the College Football Playoff would only further validate the job he has done in Austin.
