Bruins Miss Chance to Clinch Division, Fall to Capitals 2-0

Bruins Unable to Secure Consecutive Atlantic Division Title with Loss

Washington Capitals Sneak into Playoff Contention with Victory

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Boston Bruins' hopes of clinching their second consecutive Atlantic Division title were dashed on Friday night as they fell 2-0 to the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena. Despite a strong start that saw them outshoot the Capitals 14-6 in the first period, the Bruins were unable to find the back of the net. Washington, on the other hand, made the most of their limited chances, scoring goals from Nic Dowd and T.J. Oshie in the second and third periods, respectively. The loss leaves the Bruins in second place in the Atlantic Division, one point behind the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Capitals, meanwhile, are now in fifth place in the Metropolitan Division, just three points out of a playoff spot. With the win, the Capitals moved to 31-28-8 on the season, while the Bruins fell to 34-27-6. Oshie's goal was his 299th career goal, one shy of the 300-goal mark.
